Context:
In March 2014, ClearPlay sued DISH Network and its affiliate EchoStar Technologies in the United States District Court for the District of Utah, alleging infrignement of two patents directed to methods of filtering multimedia content. In March 2023 a jury found infringement of both patents and awarded $469 million damages to ClearPlay. Subsequently, the district court granted DISH’s motion for judgment as a matter of law (JMOL), overriding the jury verdict; ClearPlay appealed.
