Context:
Gallium nitride (GaN) technology is playing an increasingly crucial role in making cleaner, more efficient, and sustainable energy, as the world shifts away from fossil fuel power and traditional silicon-based technology. It has a broad range of applications, including renewable energy systems, data centers, industrial automation, and electric vehicles (EVs). U.S.-based Wolfspeed, previously known as Cree, Inc., is one of the country’s leading manufacturers of wide bandgap semiconductors (materials with a larger energy gap that enable high-temperature, high-voltage, and high-frequency applications). It specializes in silicon carbide (SiC) materials, GaN-based transistors, and SiC-based Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field-effect Transistors (MOSFETs) and modules. Some of Wolfspeed’s products are also used in military communications, radar, satellite, and telecommunications.
